NOTE: Irish
genealogy is not an exact science. Records are hard to trace for a multitude of
reasons, many public records were destroyed during the 1922 Civil War,
Townlands and parishes have shifted or been renamed over time, Registers are
incomplete or damaged, etc. The records I’ve compiled are a
best effort. Though some dates and spellings may be inexact the
information comes from reliable sources (census records, Parish books, etc). I
am confident Mhaitéis Mhóir (Big Matt) is my great grandfather. In 1981 I
visited with my father’s cousin, Father Colm Whelan. He brought me to the site
where my grandfather’s family lived. It’s the same location that historian (and
cousin) Aine Ní Chonghaile list as the Tigh (house of) Mhaitéis Mhóir Ó Máille.
